Swimming and such

Drew started swimming lessons this year. They're not going that well. For the most part, Drew doesn't like going in the water and he tries to get out of going to swimming classes. It reminds me of when I was younger and tried to get out of going to church. Yet, when Drew's in his class he does a good job and then says how much fun it was and how he wants to go again. That part is NOT like what happened to me after I got home from church - and what a blasphemous blog entry for just before Easter. Hmmm.

Anyway, he's the one in the green hat and pastel plaid swim shorts. To make note, the shorts were brightly colored plaid when we started swim class. To complete his outfit, Drew is supposed to wear goggles - I'd like to see you convince a 2 and a half year old to wear swim goggles.

Grandma visit

I went to Minneapolis for a work trip on Thursday and Friday so Grandma came to do the babysitting. Thanks Grandma!

Grandma Cat sent early Easter presents! One present is a GIANT chocolate bunny and the other is this new "ocorder". Drew loves it so much that we'll be sure to send it with him every time he goes to visit Grandma.

On a cold day...we go to the zoo!

It's Spring Break only not really spring weather. It was about 35 degrees and cold and Drew took a shitty nap and woke up early - so we went to the zoo. No one else was there, but the polar bears were out and the camels too - who knew camels enjoyed the cold weather? We got quite a show from the river otters. We spent most of our time in the herpaterium where it was warm and was also where all of Drew's favorite animals were housed. The two sad parts about the zoo was that we were not able to find the porcupines (at Drew's request, not mine) and the carousel was closed (curse you winter!). Here are some pics!

Names

Drew has four favorite friends that follow him everywhere: two identical cats, one skunk and now one manatee. A couple of weeks ago he named one of his cats "Crush." Today I asked what his skunk is named and he said "Hundred" and his manatee is named "Painting."

Yesterday I picked up Drew from daycare and here is how the conversation went:
Drew: I want pocket goats
Me: What?
D: I want pocket goats
M: Say that again?
D: I want pocket goes - green pocket goes.
M: Oh, you want a green popsicle?
D: Yes! I want green popset go and you have red one.

New stuff and new haircut

Grandma and Da are here today and tomorrow to hang out. They were also the first to get a real live shot of my new haircut. The pictures that everyone else took looked freaky so, here is one that I took myself.

I've been told is not as "professional" as my old look - and that was from the lady who permed my hair against my will for many years. Sisters, you can have the final verdict.

On the schedule for this weekend is swimming lessons and dinner with friends. Maybe we'll just go ahead and document all of that too.

I'll leave you with one cute story: Yesterday, Drew and I were playing with his shape puzzle. He picked up his circle shape and said "Circle, like wheel!" and then rolled it around on the ground. Then he picked up his square piece and said "Square - that BUMPY wheel!"

Finally, we have entered the 21st century

So, are we the last ones on earth to start a blog for our kid? Maybe not, but we certainly are far behind. I am finally doing this because:

• Drew officially turns 2 and a half this month (and I turn 33 - gasp!)



• Part of me feels that I've let the family down by not keeping in touch



• Part of me feels guilt about not cataloging every daily milestone that my kid has



• And then part of me is "whatever"

Or, maybe I've just snapped from too many requests for pictures.

So then, onto the pictures. Here are some highlights from Feb:

We went to the Children's Museum in Milwaukee with Grandma Karen.

After all that fun we went to a "restaurant" called Stone Fire Pizza. We met Aunt Ericka there (her last day visiting). There is enough entertainment available to split open the head of a toddler and send him into a crazed monkey. Oh, and then there is pizza and cookies and slushies to top it all off.

Our friend Ava also came to visit and here they are making cookies for dessert.
